Shannon, dear. Please please PLEASE don't read into your AP score and beat yourself up over it. It's just a bunch of stuck up retired art scholars looking at one inch slides that don't do your art any justice. I've looked through hundreds of slides of students who got threes, fours, fives and honestly, there is no rhyme or reason to it. Your work is beautiful, and you're ridiculously talented. So don't ever stop taking pictures because I'd miss admiring them too much.

they don't do slides anymore, we submit our pieces online and they look at... something like 400X700 pixel frames, which are significantly better than slides.

which is just for reference; it doesn't make a difference either way.

blah. I feel like they don't realize I'm a 17 year old with a nice camera and outdated version of photoshop, I'm not a seasoned art student and I go off of what makes me happy, not what has meaning or much artistic value. it's a test taken by 17 and 18 year olds who don't have a lot of training. it shouldn't be graded so harshly, I'd venture to say that maybe it shouldn't be a class at all? but I digress.

I'm immensely irritated.

Duuuude are you really letting Sears and some old people beat your spirit down? Art is NOT about everyone else, it's about you. Artists do what they want. Period. Being tied down to a concentration made it harder for creativity anyway. You like your stuff, I like your stuff, there are people who like your stuff and thats all that matters. Haters dont exist in the art world. Its all about who LIKES what. And people like you. So fuck Sears, fuck the board, shoot some photos and keep it REAL!
Hope you summer is going good though.


P.S. I would really hate to see your work die out. It's like hearing that someone died.

I totally agree with ~melthearsonist22! Your works is YOUR work. It is art because you make it for YOU and not to satisfy someone else. So keep doing what you love and keep posting your art here. You DO have lots of people enjoying your work!

Oh, yeah, and by the way? I think Ian got a 4 last year. I'm pretty sure that's what Sears said, because his artwork was strong all the way through and there was minimal improvement, or something along that line.

a lot of people got 4's this year from what i gather..i feel like the grading was illegitimate..and I'm really sorry you didn't get a 5. you deserved it boo =/ I wouldn't read too far into that shit. I <3 you, and your photography is fantastic. I credit you with a large portion of my inspiration, just sayin'

i really like your work. and i took ap art last year (drawing) and i was told you could "protest" your grade. that is, have it regraded by different people. but it may be too late for that now....

but my point comes to thus: art is subjective. whats the use of it if it doesnt make you happy? if you model your art around what someone else wants to see, theres no meaning or enjoyment for you. so keep doing what youre doing, its beautiful cuz its yours
